Environmental sustainability is seldom a factor taken into consideration equally to economy and quality when choices are made. When it comes to photography artistic expression, the graphic quality and the economy are taken into consideration but there is rarely focus on the environmental impact of the photographic process.
There are several reasons for this. Firstly, it is not easily accessible to make a sustainable choice. It is neither visible whether a product is harmful to the environment or environmentally friendly. Secondly, it is not normally a part of artistic and photographic culture to consider the sustainability concerning the production.
In order to allow photographers to make more sustainable choices, we have made two small handbooks on sustainable chooses in photography. One is addressing environmental impact and choices regarding products on the market the other one is focusing on options for alternative photographic processes.
The handbook is based on general research as well as professional knowledge. All references are available in the handbook. We hope they can be an inspirations for both artists working with photography as well documentary photographers and commercial photographers.
